A lawsuit filed against Bob Dylan accusing the legendary musician of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl in 1965 has been dropped by the accuser.
In a hearing last week, the unidentified accuser, referred to only as "J.C." in court documents, requested the case be dismissed "with prejudice." The request comes after the defense team alleged the plaintiff deleted crucial messages related to the case.
"This case is over. It is outrageous that it was ever brought in the first place," Dylan's lawyer said in a statement to Billboard. "We are pleased that the plaintiff has dropped this lawyer-driven sham and that the case has been dismissed with prejudice."
The lawsuit was filed in August last year. The now-68-year-old woman alleged that the singer sexually abused her multiple times between April and May of 1965.
Dylan "exploited his status as a musician by grooming J.C. to gain her trust and to obtain control over her as part of his plan to sexually molest and abuse J.C.," the lawsuit had claimed.
However, Dylan and his lawyers slammed the plaintiff. Dylan also called the lawsuit a "brazen shakedown" to extract a huge amount of money out of him.
